White Cloud Mountain Minnows (Tanichthys Micagemmae) are found naturally in China and Vietnam. They are a freshwater species, measuring 4cm (1.5 inches) in size, and have a peaceful temperament. Their diet consists of both plants and animals, and they are easy to breed for beginner aquarists. They are often compared to Neon Tetras, making them ideal for those new to the hobby. These fish thrive in schools of at least six, and prefer to live with smaller, peaceful species. They can be kept in outdoor ponds to help control mosquito populations, but should not be housed with larger fish. Be careful when using copper in their aquariums, as they can be sensitive to it. A fine, dark substrate and ample live vegetation, rocks, and driftwood are ideal for these minnows. Males are usually more slender and vibrant in colour, while females may become fuller when ready to spawn. Spawning takes place year-round.
