Introducing New Fish
Size

The Head & Tail Light Tetra (Hemigrammus ocellifer) is a peaceful, attractive freshwater schooling fish named for the two distinctive reflective “light” spots located near the eye and at the base of the tail. These markings shimmer under aquarium lighting, making the species especially appealing in planted community aquariums.

Calm and social by nature, Head & Tail Light Tetras thrive when kept in groups and show their best colour and confidence in stable, well-maintained aquariums. Their gentle temperament makes them an excellent choice for peaceful community setups.

Physical Characteristics

  • Adult Size: Approximately 4–5 cm (1.5–2 inches)

  • Coloration: Silver body with a reflective spot behind the eye and a second light marking at the tail base; subtle copper or yellow tones may appear

  • Body Shape: Slender, classic tetra profile

  • Sexual Dimorphism:

    • Females are slightly larger and fuller-bodied

    • Males are slimmer and may show brighter markings
