Hygrophila Red, more accurately known as Alternanthera reineckii, is a striking freshwater aquarium plant prized for its deep red to burgundy leaves. It is one of the most popular red stem plants in aquascaping, providing bold colour contrast against green plants and hardscape.
This plant performs best in well-maintained planted aquariums with moderate to high lighting. With proper nutrients and CO₂ supplementation, Alternanthera reineckii develops intense coloration and compact growth, making it ideal for midground placement in display aquariums.
