Introducing New Fish
Salvini Cichlid
The Salvini Cichlid, also known as the Tricolor Cichlid or Yellow Belly Cichlid, is a vibrant species found in the lakes and rivers of southern Mexico and northern Central America. It features a bright yellow body with two dark, blotchy stripes running from the eyes to the tail fin, complemented by turquoise-blue spots scattered across its body. The long fins have a turquoise-blue sheen, and the anal fins and areas behind the pectoral fins are marked with a striking red. The tail fin is also edged in red, while the head displays about four horizontal stripes along the forehead.
To care for Salvini Cichlids, a tank of at least 200 liters is required, with a fine gravel or sand substrate. They don't burrow or damage plants, making them ideal for creating territorial spaces with plant life. The tank should also have plenty of rocks and roots for hiding spots, while leaving ample swimming space. Although they can coexist with smaller, similarly aggressive fish, Salvini Cichlids are territorial and may become aggressive towards others.
Male Salvini Cichlids can be distinguished by their pointed fins. These cichlids are excellent parents, with both the male and female taking part in raising the fry. After cleaning the rocks in the tank, the female will lay up to 500 eggs.
