Introducing New Fish

Three Spot Gourami

In its native habitat, this species is usually discovered in slow-moving, densely vegetated, low-lying bodies of water such as ponds, canals, bogs, and wetlands. In the central to lower Mekong region, many groups are known to journey towards flooded forests or grasslands during the wet season, then traveling back to the primary river systems once the floodwater's subside.

Maximum Standard Length:

6″ (15cm). Most aquarium specimens tend to remain a little smaller than this, but can still be expected to reach 5″ (12.5cm).

Maintenance:

A planted aquarium with some floating cover and open areas for swimming suits this species.

Water conditions:

Temperature: 75-86°C (24-30°C)

pH: 5.5-8.5

Hardness: 3-35 dH

Diet

These playful fish have a diverse palate, happily snacking on land and water plants, algae, little critters, and debris. They're not picky eaters and will chow down on almost anything you offer.

Behaviour and compatibility:

Playful and quirky, the Three Spot Gourami is not your average community fish. While some may stay peaceful, others become surprisingly aggressive as they mature. Keep with heartier fish like barbs and medium-sized gouramis to keep the peace (pun intended) in your tank.

Sexual Dimorphism:

The male is larger and develops a pointed dorsal fin. The female is smaller and rounder in the belly.
